2014 Chevy Camaro Z28 Photos Unveiled
Passing the Nürburgring lap time 4 sec quicker than the Chevy Camaro ZL1, the all-new Z28 has proven itself on the world’s most complicated racetrack.
Despite racing in rainy conditions, the Camaro Z28 turned in the fastest lap time of 7:37.40 after undergoing 10 hours or 1,000 miles of examination at the Nordschleife.
“One of the challenges of trial at the ‘Ring is that the racetrack is so long that conditions can change significantly in a single lap,” informed Al Oppenheiser, Camaro head engineer.
Actually, Z28′s lap time is faster than the costlier sports models such as the Porsche 911 Carrera S and even the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.
“Adam Dean, the development racer for Z/28, did an epic job driving in deteriorating conditions. Based on telemetry data from our trial sessions, we know the Z/28 can be as much as 6 sec quicker on a dry racetrack.”
Enhanced by a 7.0-liter LS7 motor, the Camaro Z28 packs 504 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. The Z28′s enhanced speed in comparison to the previous ZL1 comes thanks to upgraded grip, increased stopping power and lowered curb weight – the Z28 weighs 300 pounds less than the supercharged ZL1.
