The Corvette Grand Sport Marks the Final Chapter for the C8 Era
- The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport will complete the C8 model lineup.
- The Grand Sport generally appears late in the generation cycle.
- Corvette Chief Engineer Josh Holder confirms the same approach will apply to the C8.
Chevrolet unveiled the eighth-generation Corvette with a mid-engine layout back in July 2019. The initial production faced hurdles such as pandemic-related delays and labor strikes. Since then, Chevrolet expanded the C8 family with variants including the Z06, E-Ray, ZR1, and now the Grand Sport, which is expected to be the last of its kind for this generation.
Speaking on The Gas podcast, Corvette’s Chief Engineer Josh Holder explained that while ongoing refinements are common, the Grand Sport will officially close out the C8 lineup. "We’re always fine-tuning, but the Grand Sport will definitely be the final addition for the eighth-generation Corvette," he stated.
Holder emphasized that the Grand Sport has historically been introduced near the tail end of a Corvette generation, citing the C7 Grand Sport debut in 2017 before the C8 arrived in 2020, and the C6 Grand Sport launching in 2010 prior to the C7’s 2014 release. He did not provide a timeline for the next-generation C9 but hinted development is underway. If past patterns hold, a debut around 2030 is likely.
The 2027 Grand Sport and Grand Sport X Explained
The upcoming 2027 Grand Sport will feature General Motors' new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 engine, delivering 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque—the highest torque output ever for a naturally aspirated V8 from Chevrolet. Positioned between the base Stingray and the more aggressive Z06, the Grand Sport offers enhanced performance at a more accessible price point.
Additionally, Chevrolet will introduce the Grand Sport X, a hybrid variant combining the LS6 engine with the ZR1X’s hybrid system to produce 721 horsepower, surpassing the Z06. This hybrid model replaces the E-Ray in the lineup.
For now, these will represent the final significant updates to the C8 range. Chevrolet also hinted at potential bespoke editions and unique custom builds before the next-generation Corvette arrives.
