Audi TT Ultra Quattro Model Drops Over 600 Lbs
Audi’s TT sports model might be getting older but the German brand hasn’t yet finished with showcasing how capable performance base it can be. After the TT-RS, Audi has switched gears for a fresh model called the TT Ultra Quattro, keeping the car’s platform with 4-cylinder powerplant while dropping over 600 pounds.
The highlight of the car maker’s booth at the upcoming Worthersee Tour in Austria, the TT Ultra Quattro drops weight through ultra measures using carbon-fiber repowered polymer (CFRP) for the center tunnel, B-pillars and roof, while the floor is made of Magnesium. Surely, body panels are also made of CRFP while the rear spoiler consists of an aluminum base and carbon fiber deck. Even the side mirrors have been placed in favor of cameras that digitally display what is behind the vehicle.
Inside over 48 lbs were reduced by dropping the rear seat area, while the front seats were swapped out for fiberglass-repowered plastic (FRP) variants from the R8 GT. And under the driver’s seat is a fresh lithium-ion starter battery, reducing an additional 8 lbs from the vehicle and transfering the weight towards the center.
Shedding an additional 44 lbs are carbon fiber and aluminum wheels, while ceramic brakes with aluminum calipers as well as a titanium exhaust pipe play a great role. All somewhat apparent choices, Audi amazes with the suspension setting switching the steel coil springs with those designed of FRP, reducing 13 more pounds.
