Range Rover Electric EV450 with 444 HP Excluded from U.S. Lineup
The 2027 Range Rover lineup offers an extensive range of powertrains, including an inline-six, two V-8 options, a plug-in hybrid, and the newly introduced Range Rover Electric. While rivals like the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 also provide wide powertrain selections, Range Rover produces an additional electric variant for other global markets that is not currently scheduled for the United States.
For the U.S. market, the 2027 Range Rover Electric arrives in the EV550 specification, which features a dual-motor powertrain producing 542 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. That output exceeds the standard V-8 version, which generates 523 hp and 553 lb-ft while carrying an identical starting price. During driving evaluations, the EV550 demonstrated strong acceleration that is calibrated to deliver smooth power without abrupt head-snapping launches, though full-throttle acceleration can produce a sensation similar to subtle torque steer.
The overseas variant unavailable to American buyers is the Range Rover Electric EV450. This version produces approximately 444 hp and completes the 0–62-mph sprint in an estimated 5.6 seconds, making it 1.1 seconds slower than the manufacturer's estimate for the EV550. Although that figure would make it the slowest version in the U.S. lineup by a small margin, it remains brisk for a large luxury SUV. Official EPA range figures have not yet been finalized even for the 542-hp U.S. model, which Range Rover estimates will reach up to 333 miles, though a less powerful EV450 could potentially offer a range advantage similar to what helped the Cadillac Escalade iQ stand out.
If consumer demand for electric vehicles grows in the United States, Range Rover could eventually introduce the 444-hp EV450 as a more accessible alternative to the 542-hp EV550 or as a potential successor if the plug-in hybrid loses popularity. For now, American customers seeking a battery-electric Range Rover will be able to choose between the 542-hp Range Rover Electric and the upcoming 542-hp Range Rover Sport Electric.
