Porsche Mission S Supercar Platform Can Accommodate a Manual Transmission

The Porsche Mission S concept serves as an early preview of a new top-tier sports car designed to sit above the 911 in the German automaker's lineup. According to Porsche CEO Michael Leiters, who spoke at the vehicle's launch event and was quoted by Road and Track, the underlying platform offers significant powertrain flexibility and could even accommodate a manual transmission if buyers express enough interest. Leiters emphasized that customer demand will ultimately dictate what configurations Porsche builds on this architecture.

While the company has not yet shared a production timeline, technical specifications, performance metrics, or pricing, it has confirmed that models built on the new platform will be positioned above the 911 with a higher price tag and superior performance.

Visually, the mid-engine Mission S features a long, low, and wide stance defined by what Porsche calls a "Floating Volumes" design, where the bodywork appears suspended over the chassis. Exterior highlights include lightweight wheels, an active rear wing, and cooling fans inspired by the classic Porsche 917 race car.

Inside the cabin, the concept moves away from the large infotainment touchscreens typical of modern vehicles. Instead, the dashboard features five round analog gauges positioned in front of digital displays, physical controls, and a smartphone mount in place of a central screen.
