Mazda Drops CX-70 Nameplate and Introduces Two-Row CX-90 Variants for 2027
Mazda is streamlining its mid-size SUV portfolio for the 2027 model year by discontinuing the CX-70 nameplate and merging it into the CX-90 lineup. Instead of selling two closely related models separately, the 2027 Mazda CX-90 will be offered in both two-row and three-row seating configurations. The automaker states this move is designed to offer buyers greater flexibility following slow sales for both SUVs. alongside the lineup consolidation, the CX-90 receives updated rear suspension components, fresh paint options, and expanded standard features.
Customers looking for a two-row CX-90 can choose between two specific trims: the 3.3 Turbo Premium Sport and the 3.3 Turbo S Premium Sport. These are the only variants offered with a choice of two or three rows, while all other trims retain the standard three-row layout. The two-row models feature one-touch auto-down second-row seats to simplify access to the expanded cargo compartment. Pricing for the 2027 CX-90 starts at $41,345 (including destination) for the base three-row 3.3 Turbo Select, followed by the 3.3 Turbo Preferred at $45,495 and the 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus at $52,315. The 3.3 Turbo Premium Sport is priced at $48,525 for the two-row version and $49,725 for the three-row version. Stepping up to the 3.3 Turbo S Premium Sport costs $55,185 with two rows or $56,385 with three rows, while the range-topping 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus costs $59,615. Plug-in hybrid models are priced at $52,340 for the PHEV Preferred, $57,145 for the PHEV Premium Sport, and $60,345 for the PHEV Premium Plus.
Under the hood, the powertrain options remain unchanged across both seating configurations. The standard turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six delivers 280 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque on regular 87-octane fuel. The higher-output 3.3 Turbo S generates up to 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque on 91-octane premium fuel, or 319 horsepower on regular gas. Both six-cylinder engines are paired with a 48-volt M-Hybrid Boost mild-hybrid system, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive. When equipped with genuine Mazda towing accessories, the Turbo S is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds. Additionally, the CX-90 PHEV returns with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8-kilowatt-hour battery, producing a combined 323 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel while offering up to 27 miles of all-electric range.
Every 2027 CX-90 benefits from a revised rear suspension crossmember and updated rear bushings engineered to smooth out the ride over rough surfaces. New exterior colors across the lineup include Navy Blue Mica and Aero Gray Metallic, while the two-row versions can also be finished in Melting Copper Metallic and Zircon Sand Metallic. Base 3.3 Turbo Select models come equipped with 19-inch wheels, black leatherette seats, a power liftgate, three-zone climate control, an eight-speaker sound system, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
