2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE Unveiled with Enhanced Design and Potent AMG 53 Hybrid Delivering 577 HP
- The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLE Coupe receive a comprehensive redesign.
- Updated powertrain lineup includes a powerful twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine.
- The new AMG GLE 53 Hybrid boasts 577 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.
Mercedes-Benz has given its GLE SUV a significant overhaul to keep it competitive and modern. Although a refresh was introduced for 2024, the model quickly began to feel outdated. The 2027 version addresses this with a new exterior style, upgraded interior features, and refined powertrains.
Leading the range is the GLE 580 4Matic, now equipped with an enhanced twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter mild-hybrid V8 engine that produces 530 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, an increase from the prior 510 hp and 538 lb-ft. This engine gains a flat-plane crankshaft and improvements to components such as the fuel injection system, intake camshaft, and cylinder head ports. The SUV sprints to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
The GLE 450 4Matic features a tuned 3.0-liter mild-hybrid inline-six engine maintaining 375 hp but with torque boosted from 369 to 413 lb-ft, thanks to a stronger electric auxiliary compressor and updated intake components. This model achieves 60 mph in 5.0 seconds.
The GLE Coupe is available solely in the 450 4Matic trim paired with the revised inline-six engine, alongside an AMG version that matches the power output but accelerates slightly slower, reaching 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
At the entry-level, the GLE 350 4Matic carries an improved 2.0-liter mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine featuring an electric compressor. While horsepower remains at 255 and torque at 295 lb-ft, acceleration improves marginally, now taking 6.8 seconds to hit 60 mph.
Mercedes also introduces the GLE 500e plug-in hybrid, which replaces the former 450e model. It combines the new 3.0-liter inline-six with an electric motor for a total output of 429 hp and 502 lb-ft, accelerating to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds.
Across all standard GLE trims, top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph, and towing capacity is rated up to 7,700 pounds. The advanced 4Matic all-wheel-drive system remains standard, capable of distributing full torque to either axle, complemented by a new transfer case featuring a low-range gear.
Extensive Upgrades with Thousands of New Parts
Mercedes states the 2027 GLE incorporates around 3,000 new or improved components. Beyond the powertrain enhancements, the exterior receives refreshed styling, including redesigned front bumpers and updated lighting that align with Mercedes’ latest design language.
Inside, the cabin now comes standard with the brand’s massive Superscreen: three 12.3-inch displays under one continuous glass panel running the newest operating system. While the dashboard vents have been refreshed, much of the interior layout, such as the center console, remains familiar.
New exterior color options include Dark Petrol and Manufaktur Patagonia Red Metallic, alongside four new 20-inch wheel designs.
AMG GLE 53 Hybrid: Power and Performance Boosted
The AMG GLE 53 Hybrid receives a substantial upgrade with the new 3.0-liter inline-six engine featuring an enlarged intake system. Paired with a 181-hp electric motor, the combined output rises to 577 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.
This represents a significant increase from the outgoing 53 model’s 429 hp and 413 lb-ft. The AMG GLE 53 shaves half a second off its 0-60 mph time, now reaching the mark in just 4.4 seconds.
Distinctive AMG styling cues include a signature grille, quad exhaust outlets, and a sportier AMG steering wheel. New exclusive paint finishes are Manufaktur Patagonia Red Metallic and Manufaktur Cirrus Silver Magno.
While Mercedes has not confirmed exact availability, the 2027 GLE is expected to arrive at dealerships later this year. Pricing details are anticipated closer to launch, with the current 2026 GLE 350 starting at $63,600 and the AMG GLE 53 beginning at $91,350 including destination fees.
