Toyota GR86 Yuzu Edition 2026 Channels Scion Legacy

Expanding its lineup of special editions, Toyota introduces the Yuzu Edition for the 2026 model year GR86. This limited-edition release pays homage to the Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0, which debuted over a decade ago at the 2014 New York Auto Show before the Scion brand was discontinued.

The Yuzu Edition builds upon the GR86's Premium trim and includes a Performance Package featuring upgraded Brembo brakes and SACHS suspension components. Enthusiasts can further customize their vehicle with optional enhancements like a subtle body kit and a more pronounced quad exhaust, available for an additional fee. Despite these upgrades, the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine maintains its output at 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.

Drivers have the choice between a standard six-speed manual or an automatic transmission equipped with paddle shifters. Both options come standard with a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, ensuring optimal handling and performance.

Design and Features

The Yuzu Edition mirrors the fully loaded configurations seen in the Trueno and Hakone Editions, featuring 18-inch matte black wheels that reflect the aesthetic of the original Scion models. The interior adopts a sleek black theme accented with yellow stitching, a departure from the red accents of the former FR-S.

Technological enhancements include updated throttle mapping for smoother downshifts and a more responsive throttle system, achieved through refined engine torque control.

Exclusivity and Availability

Continuing the tradition of its Scion predecessor, the Yuzu Edition is produced in a limited quantity, with Toyota planning to release only 860 units for the North American market this fall. Pricing is expected to be higher than the base Premium trim of $32,600, potentially aligning with the $35,270 price point of the Hakone Edition.

Automotive enthusiasts are eager to see if Toyota will introduce a subsequent special edition, reminiscent of the Scion FR-S Release Series 2.0, which featured a unique Lunar Storm finish and a limited run of 1,000 units.
