Mercedes CLA Experiences Surge in Sales, Shifting to Triple Production Shifts

Even though online sentiments towards the latest CLA model have been mixed, actual sales tell a different story. Mercedes-Benz is witnessing strong demand for its electric sedan, with customers actively investing in the vehicle. Production leader Joerg Burzer highlighted the positive momentum, describing the current order volume as "extremely promising." To keep up with the influx of orders, Mercedes plans to switch the CLA’s production to a three-shift system later this year.

Order Volume and Delivery Timelines

Orders for the CLA have been open in Germany since April. However, some local buyers may face delivery waits extending into 2026, as reported by the business magazine Automobilwoche. Typically, extended delivery periods indicate high demand unless there are manufacturing delays. Previously, Mercedes encountered challenges in sourcing rare earth materials, but Burzer confirmed that these issues have been resolved, ensuring smooth production without current limitations.

Expanding the CLA Range

Production of the CLA is still scaling up, with plans to introduce a gasoline variant by the end of the year. This new model will feature a mild-hybrid system with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, offering a more budget-friendly option compared to the electric base model, which starts at €55,858 for the CLA 250+ with EQ Technology in Germany.

Anticipation is further boosted by the upcoming launch of the CLA Shooting Brake. This new compact wagon will also be available as an electric vehicle and will be assembled at the Rastatt facility, where Mercedes is also set to produce the next-generation GLA crossover.

Future Model Plans

Joerg Burzer mentioned the possibility of extending the production lifecycle of the A-Class and B-Class models, which continue to enjoy popularity despite their longevity. However, Mercedes does not currently plan to replace the A-Class hatchback and sedan or the B-Class minivan, effectively making the CLA the new entry-level model. Additionally, Mercedes is preparing to introduce another GLB variant with both gasoline and electric options, as well as a "Little G" model expected later this decade.
