Rare 1964 Ferrari 250 LM for Sale: Last V-12 Le Mans Winner

Ferrari's End of an Era

In 1965, the 250 LM by Scaglietti marked the end of an era for Ferrari at Le Mans. It was the last time the automaker claimed an overall victory in the prestigious endurance race, and its engine boasted a full V-12 configuration.

Now, this rare classic is heading to auction, giving collectors the chance to own a piece of history. The 1964 Ferrari 250 LM, chassis 5893, will be sold by RM Sotheby's. It was the sixth 250 LM built and achieved its Le Mans victory under the ownership of Luigi Chinetti Motors and the North American Racing Team (NART).

Unique and Highly Desirable

This Ferrari 250 LM also holds another record as the only Ferrari built during Enzo Ferrari's reign to compete in six 24-hour races. After its racing career, it found a home at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, where it has remained ever since.

The car's condition is described as "highly original," with minimal maintenance performed to keep it in working order. The Tipo V-12 engine that powered the 250 LM to victory at Le Mans remains intact, along with the correct gearbox.

Auction Details

The upcoming auction at RM Sotheby's in February 2025 is expected to see fierce bidding for this historical Ferrari. Pre-auction estimates suggest a price of $26 million, although the final selling price remains to be seen. The 1964 Ferrari 250 LM will undoubtedly command attention as the last V-12 Ferrari to win Le Mans and a prized possession for any collector.
