Volkswagen works on the 300HP Tiguan Coupe R

We heard that Volkswagen is working on a new high-performance Tiguan R offering. It is said to be based on the coming-soon variant of the crossover.

The new cool crossover will remain with five doors. Though, it will have a raked roof which will give a coupe design. The model will be equipped with the 2.0-litre turbocharged V4 engine of the Golf R. It will be able to generate almost 300 hp and torque of 280 lb-ft. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox and 4-wheel drive.

Almost as the Golf R Wagon, the offering will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Besides the powerful engine, the model under consideration will probably receive torque vectoring, specially tuned suspension and adaptive dampers. The new Volkswagen crossover will be equipped with the new MQB modular architecture. Speaking about styling, it must be mentioned, that the model will remind of the VW Crossblue Coupe Concept.

Regular variants of the coming-soon Tiguan Coupe will provide 1.4- and 2.0-litre petrol engines. Meanwhile, a plug-in version will be offered after the launch.

The Tiguan offering will rival with the Audi RS Q3 and the Mercedes-AMG GLA45. It is scheduled to be introduced in two years. As to the hotter R version, we will see it in three years.
