Volkswagen Will Make its Decision on Golf R400 Production

Volkswagen has stated that they are going to confirm a production variant of the Golf R400 concept.

Nearly a year ago the automaker impressed its customers with the Golf VII R-based R400 concept at Beijing Auto China. After that, rumours about possible production version appeared. Volkswagen’s technical director says that the model is undergoing conceptual work now. He also mentioned that the company is about to decide if the model is worth producing.

He continued specifying that the automaker has a good prospect to do it. If the vehicle will be built, it will be similar to the concept of 2014. Therefore, a beefy three-door Golf should be expected. Its approximate weigh will equal 1,420 kg (or 3,130 lbs). It will be something alike the concept having a 2.0-litre turbo V4 powertrain sourced from the Golf R. The deliverance was upgraded to a significant 400 hp (or294 kW) and torque of 460 Nm (or 332 lb-ft). Therefore, it will be 100 hp and 70 Nm more powerful.

The concept was developed by automaker’s R division. The vehicle was equipped with a 4MOTION four-wheel drive system. It received power from a six-speed DSG gear box granting the Golf R400 concept a 0-62 mph (0-100 km) sprint within 3.9 seconds. At the time when the donor vehicle’s output is an electronically-capped 155 mph (or 250 km/h), the concept car will be able to output a limited 174 mph (or 280 km/h).
