Volkswagen GTI of Next Generation will boast 300 HP

Volkswagen will preserve its Golf GTI with decent amount of power.

A report from Automobile assures that the automaker is planning to endue its next-gen Golf GTI with 300 hp. It is even more than in the Golf R (292 hp). The current version has only 210 hp. While increasing the performance across the Golf range, VW is going to add one more offering. It will be the Golf RS with 400 hp. The offering will remind of the Golf R400 concept which is going to be produced.

The 8-gen Golf GTI from Volkswagen will probably not be presented till 2019. It is said to be an evolution of the current GTI. The model will ride on the MQB Evo platform. The vehicle will become 50-100 lbs lighter in comparison with the current offering. Its upgrades will be aimed at the powertrain and electronics.

The German automaker has approved only one engine for the new Golf GTI. It is a 2.0-litre turbocharged V4 providing 300 hp. As to other powerplant options, they are being discussed. One of them is a narrow-angle six-cylinder generating 300 hp. Its engine displacement can equal to either 2.5-litre or 3.0-litre. A hybrid version with 175 hp and 95 hp motors is also under consideration.

The 300 hp Golf GTI will probably sport a regular 6-speed manual gear box. There also will be optional dual-clutch automatic gear box, larger brakes an electronic limited-slip differential, a pair of aerodynamic aids and adaptive suspension dumpers.
