Thieves are chasing down Toyota Prius Batteries

The Toyota Prius hybrid has gained popularity among vehicle thieves in San Francisco. What has attracted them so much? It is not even the whole vehicle, but its part.

The thieves are trying to steal the battery of the hybrid which is in the list of very expensive items. The robbers plan to resell the batteries. Earlier thieves were aimed at airbags and catalytic converters. Times have changed and the sum of money they can raise with hybrid vehicle batteries is really big.

If you are the owner, you will also have to pay a lot to replace the item. John Nashed is one of the victims. He says that there was a whole rash of stealing the batteries from Prius cars. The victim’s Allstate insurance adjuster has confirmed that they are investigating three other cases with the same problem.

Speaking of the process, removing battery from the vehicle under consideration is not an easy thing. Moreover, it is even dangerous if the work is done by a non-professional. 200 volts of the battery can provoke serious injuries. Nashed shared that these batteries are on Craigslist and their price is varying from $900 to $1,000. His own repairs will take away $10,000. A dealership in Francisco has agreed that there is a rise in stealing. It noted that they have replaced several stolen batteries. The Japanese producer is searching a better way to protect the units under consideration from thieves.
