Production of Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be finished in June, expect the Next-Gen in 2016
A representative from Toyota has confirmed that production of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be completed next month.
Nathan Kokes, who works for Toyota Motor Sales USA in the department of advanced technology marketing, unveiled the soon death of the mid-size Prius Plug-in Hybrid offering as its production will be terminated to the next month. He wrote these thoughts in a forum post on PriusChat. Moreover, Kokes specified that the automaker is working hard at developing the next generation. Though, recollecting that the standard next-gen Prius has been drawn back too, it probably will not be launched till 2016. It is possible that the new Prius PHV will be released as a 2017MY in the autumn of 2016.
Don’t forget that the outgoing vehicle is equipped with an electric motor, a 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 1.8-litre V4 engine. The combustion engine outputs 99 hp (or 73 kW). At the same time the electric motor generates 82 hp (or 60 kW). In such a way, the combined output of the car is 136 hp (or 100 kW). These characteristics are sufficient for a 0-62 mph (or 0-100 km/h) run is 10.7 seconds. The car’s top speed is 112 mph (or 180 km/h).
What is more significant, is that the model is able to return 134,5 mpg UK (2.1 litres/100 km or 112 mpg US) with 49g/km emissions of CO2. The offering has got the title of the most economical vehicle to lap the Nürburgring in 2014. It managed to return 698 mpg UK (or 0.4 litres/100 km or 581 mpg US). The car came to the finish in 20 minutes and 59 seconds. The car had to tackle traffic as the circuit was not hidden from the public and the minimum speed was 37.2 mph (or 60 km/h).
