Did Volkswagen Cheat on European Emissions Testing?

Volkswagen is still unsure if it had cheated on the emissions tests in Europe.

VW Group stated that it has not determined if the illegal devices were used at NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) testing in Europe. The automaker admitted that 11 million vehicles are equipped with the issued software. VW is still compiling the list of the vehicles equipped with the diesel mill and the cheat software. It cannot say for sure if it has cheated on the tests in Europe.

The German producer did not comment on the effect the fault device could have had on the results of testing. As the regulations back in 2009 were not as strict as the ones in America, it was suggested that the cheat software would not be needed for the automaker diesel vehicles to pass New European Driving Cycle testing. Six years ago the EU5 emissions restrictions for NOx were 180 mg / km. In America the restrictions were limited at 70 mg / km during the testing.
