Consumer Reports Suspends Rating for VW TDI Offerings

Consumer Reports has taken a decision to suspend its rating on the Passat and Jetta diesel offerings till the time the cars will be re-tested and a recall repair will be done.

VW is under fire after it was cited by the EPA for cheating on its diesel emissions testing. In the result Consumer Reports is going to reassess the diesel offerings. This will be done after a repair. Attention will be paid to the repair and the specialists will find out if it has influenced the performance and fuel economy.

The German automaker has admitted to cheat the emissions control system in almost 482,000 diesel cars that have been sold in America for the last seven years. Now the producer is facing a fine. Its total sum can reach $18 billion in case the EPA leverages the biggest fine of $37,500 per car.

There are 2009-2015 VW Jetta and Jetta Sport Wagen, Audi A3, VW Beetle and Beetle Convertible, VW Golf, 2014-2015 VW Passat and this year’s VW Golf Sport Wagen among the affected vehicles.

The reaction of Consumer Report will probably be the first of many back-blows in the course of investigation.
