BMW may replace Z4 Before 2020

BMW has stated about its plans to present a Z4 successor ahead the end of the decade.

The company’s development chief told Automotive News Europe at the Motor Show in Geneva that he wants to start a replacement for the vehicle during the next 5 years. He revealed that the automaker could share costs with Toyota and this will be a part of the current cooperation between the companies.

Fröhlich continued to explain that the segment for two-seater rodsters is shrinking. He also acknowledged that China, the word’s greatest market, will not be buying roadsters. In a result, a Z4 successor is not at the top of the producer’s list because such vehicle would not be sold much. Especially if to look at the marque’s 2014 numbers. It has sold just 11% less (5,300 vehicles) of the model in Europe and 13% less (2,150 vehicles) in America.

The latest rumour has it that the co-created sportscar will have the Z5 moniker for BMW’s variant and is in its concept form now. It will have a carbon fibber tube as in the i3 and i8 duo. The car will receive a conventional soft top but will gain a fixed roof coupe variant later on. If keeping with the schedule, the Toyota’s offering and BMW Z5 will arrive sometime around 2017.
