Ball Joint Failures made Mazda to recall CX-9
Mazda is calling back 193,500 CX-9 SUVs in America because of a problem with the lower ball-joints.
The NHTSA started to investigate the problem when they received some complaints about the joints. There was information in the complaints proving that the control arms on the model under consideration would separate. This issue leads to lost control of the car.
The automaker ascribed the troubles to water getting past the rubber boot and on the ball joint. We remind you that a revised boot was added to the model two years ago. This was done in order to prevent the issue. Though, a recall of cars with the troubled boot did not happen. The company assured that the issue was a maintenance problem when it acknowledged that there will be a loud noise for a few years before the complete failure of the joint.
Being under NHTSA’s pressure, the manufacturer admits that the trouble might happen without noticing any uncommon noise by the driver since some complaints proved that a ball joint fell off unexpectedly.
This latest recall touches cars starting from 2007 till 2014 model year. It will put the cars in the “salt belt” on the first place because they fall under more suspicions concerning the issue.
