Aluminium Transition of American Pickup Trucks

Next year’s Ford F-150 batch is going to be mostly aluminium, analysts say.

A research conducted by D. Worldwide aimed at analyzing aluminium usage in American carmaking indicates that in 11 years bodies of nearly 70% of pickup trucks will be made of this material. Moreover, the trend will spread to major brands, especially Ford, Fiat Chrysler and GM which already show predisposition for it.

Crucial concern of car manufacturers is minimizing fuel consumption, which demands putting the vehicles on a diet. In 2013 a fail amount of aluminium was present in bodies of the cars; in 2025 this figure should reach the average of 550 lbs.

Supply of the material might become a cornerstone. If today the need of car companies is limited by 200-million lbs, next 11 years might see the figure grown by approximately 20 times.

A vast majority of global car line-up will use a bonnet and half of them – doors made of aluminium. To compare, two years ago the amount totalled 33% and 6%.
