Volvo Counts 1M Cars Delivered With Auto Brake

Volvo has informed that the deliveries of its cars equipped with systems for automatic braking crossed the 1-million point, with more than 130,000 delivered in the U.S.

Volvo’s technology for automatic braking includes many world firsts: “City Safety,” which works at up to 31 mph, collision alarm with full auto brake, and pedestrian and cyclist system with full auto brake. According to a 2012 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) survey of 500 U.S. Volvo drivers, a majority of them liked their car’s crash prevention options and credit the technology for keeping them safe and avoiding accidents.

Volvo is promoting its safety options for its 2014 model lineup featuring brand-new technologies that will be presented in the all-new XC90 in late 2014. Those systems feature pedestrian alarm in the dark, road edge and barrier alarm with steer assist, and adaptive cruise control with steering support.

“A couple of recent reports state that our groundbreaking auto braking technologies help lower the risk of being involved in a rear-end crash by more than 20 %. One million Volvos with auto brake on the roads take us toward our goal that nobody should be harmed or suffer severe injuries in a fresh Volvo model by the year 2020,” Volvo senior safety advisor Thomas Broberg informed.
