Tesla S Tops 2013 Plug-in Market

Tesla S will be North America’s top-selling plug-in model so far this year, leaving behind both the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf.

Tesla hopes to announce at least 4,750 sold products of its Model S for the first quarter of 2013. The Volt delivered 4,421 products while Nissan sold 3,695 Leafs in the first quarter. The numbers may be unexpected to someone, taking into consideration how much more expensive the Model S is compared to the Volt and Leaf. Sadly for the Volt and the Leaf, the Model S provides not only fashion and good exterior, but high performance.

The Model S went on market in mid-2012 with initial price of $69,900 and can run 300 miles without recharging. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is going to sell 20,000 Model S cars this year. Last year, Chevrolet and Nissan each delivered around 30,000 of their plug-in models last year but both rejected to give their volume targets for 2013.
