Nissan Celebrates 10 Million Cars Constructed in Smyrna

The first U.S.-constructed Rogue was released at Nissan’s Smyrna, Tenn. factory today, celebrating the 10-millionth model to be constructed there.

The 2nd-best seller for Nissan behind the Altima mid-size sedan, demand for the Rogue stays hot enough that the automaker is going to continue offering U.S. clients the previous generation as the Rogue “Select.” However, that model is constructed in Japan. 2nd generation Rogues are constructed in Tennessee.

Nissan informs this is part of a broader strategy to construct where it sells. By 2015, the automaker plans to construct 85 % of the cars it sells in North America domestically. The Altima is also constructed in the same factory.

Sales grew by nearly 50 % for the Rogue between 2010 and 2012, rising from around 100,000 models to 142,000.

5th in a series of 5 refreshed models, the 2014 Rogue is enhanced by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder motor paired to a continuously variable transmission and is priced from $23,350 featuring delivery.
