Mitsubishi Sets Mirage in US Except India

Mitsubishi presented the Mirage model at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The Japanese brand will start selling the vehicle in US, but not India – better market for a subcompact hatchback.

The Mirage is equipped with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder gasoline engine which generates 74 HP and 100 Nm, paired to a 5-speed manual or CVT transmission. The 5-door model uses updated impact safety body construction and comes with a host of details including 7 airbags, traction system, active stability option and a 140-watt music system.

Customers in the USA don’t love to purchase hatchbacks while it’s opposite in India. In the Indian market, more than 70 % vehicles sold are small models. Nevertheless Mitsubishi is not going to sell the Mirage in India, where it sells just SUVs like the Pajero, Montero and Outlander. The brand is struggling in India and it is strange to see them not offering compact cars in the Indian market, even after knowing there is a need for it. Do you think Mitsubishi has messed up its product planning in the last years?
