2015 Ford F-150 Aluminum Body on Track for Manufacture

Ford’s plan to implement an aluminum body in its next-gen F-150 is moving forward as planned.

The brand wasn’t confident in its plan to construct its fresh half-ton with an aluminum body, and even constructed a steel body-in-white as a precaution. Now, a supplier source connected to TTAC informs the company’s aluminum aspirations will come true, dropping as much as 700 lbs according to previous news.

Motor options will feature the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged 6-cylinder and 5.0-liter V8 while customers will also be able to choose a naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 as well as a smaller 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6.

Design will stay close to the Atlas concept spotted during the Detroit Motor Show last January.

Ford trucks spokesman Mike Levine rejected to comment on the use of aluminum in the truck specifically, but did announce “we look at multiple ways to use technology to increase fuel economy and capability across our lineup.”
