Volvo V40 I (VW) gallery (1995–2004)
First generation of the Volvo V40 compact estate built on the NedCar platform and produced from 1995 to 2004.
The first-generation Volvo V40 estate (factory code VW) debuted alongside the S40 sedan in late 1995. Developed on a joint platform with the Mitsubishi Carisma and built at the NedCar factory in the Netherlands, it was produced as a 5-door wagon offering high cargo utility in a compact footprint.
Engine options mirrored the S40, including 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0-liter petrol engines, 2.0T and T4 turbo performance models, and Renault 1.9-liter turbodiesel units. A Phase II update in 2000 improved front suspension, cabin layout, and lighting trim, remaining in production until the introduction of the V50 in 2004.
