First generation of the Volvo S80 flagship executive sedan built on the P2 platform and produced from 1998 to 2006.
The first-generation Volvo S80 flagship sedan (factory code TS) launched in 1998, replacing the rear-wheel-drive 900 / S90 series. It was the first car to utilize Volvo's P2 platform with transverse engine layouts. Produced as a 4-door executive sedan, it introduced Peter Horbury's revolutionary design language alongside safety innovations like the WHIPS whiplash protection system and Inflatable Curtain (IC) airbags.
Engines included 5-cylinder 2.4 and 2.5T units, alongside transverse 6-cylinder 2.9 and 2.8/2.9 T6 twin-turbocharged engines. Diesel variants featured Audi-sourced 2.5 TDI and Volvo's own 2.4 D5. Bi-Fuel variants ran on CNG/LPG. A 2003 facelift brought a chrome grille, redesigned taillights, and available Haldex AWD.
