Second generation Toyota Previa minivan (XR30 series) switching to a front-engine MC platform layout with dual sliding side doors.
The second generation international Toyota Previa (XR30/XR40 series) launched in early 2000, departing from the complex mid-engine setup of its predecessor in favor of a conventional front-engine, front-wheel-drive architecture on Toyota's MC platform. The mono-volume silhouette was retained, featuring a sleek raked windshield and, for the first time, dual sliding rear passenger doors. The spacious cabin provided flexible seating arrangements for seven or eight occupants, featuring long-slide second-row seats and removable third-row seating.
International engine options included a 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE VVT-i gasoline four-cylinder producing 156 horsepower and a 2.0-liter 1CD-FTV D-4D common-rail turbodiesel producing 116 horsepower. Gasoline variants were paired with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, while diesels were offered solely with a five-speed manual. Suspension comprised front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion-beam setup. A mid-cycle update in 2003 brought restyled clear-lens headlights, a revised front grille, and updated dash instrumentation.
