Revealed in Japan in November 2022 and launched for 2023, the XW60 series fundamentally redefined the Prius identity. Transitioning into an emotionally appealing coupe-like 5-door liftback, it features Toyota's Island Architecture design with a 50 mm lower roofline, stretched wheelbase, and available 19-inch alloy wheels built on the refined second-generation TNGA-C platform. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.
Powertrains received a major performance increase: a 1.8-liter hybrid (140 hp), a 2.0-liter hybrid (193–196 hp with E-Four AWD), and a range-topping 2.0-liter Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) delivering 223 horsepower and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds. Electric-only range on the PHEV expanded to 87 km. The XW60 generation remains in active production. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets.
