Second generation Toyota Estima MPV (XR30 series) built on the front-wheel-drive MC platform featuring 3.0 V6 power and the first Estima Hybrid.
The second generation Toyota Estima MPV (XR30/XR40 series) launched in Japan in January 2000. Transitioning to a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout on Toyota's MC platform, the Estima retained its signature streamlined mono-volume silhouette while adding dual sliding rear doors. The spacious interior introduced long-slide seating tracks, a stowable third-row bench, center-mounted digital gauges, and optional power-sliding side doors.
Powertrain choices featured a 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE four-cylinder (160 hp) and a smooth 3.0-liter 1MZ-FE V6 generating 220 horsepower. In 2001, Toyota launched the landmark Estima Hybrid featuring THS-C technology (2.4-liter 2AZ-FXE engine paired with an eCVT and E-Four electric all-wheel drive). Gasoline models used four-speed automatic gearboxes in FWD or Full-Time 4WD. A 2003 update refreshed the front grille fascia and clear headlamp clusters.
