Subaru Rex IV (A250) gallery (2022–present)
The fourth generation Rex returned in 2022 as a subcompact urban crossover based on the Daihatsu Rocky platform.
Revealed in November 2022 in Japan after a 30-year hiatus, the fourth-generation Subaru Rex (A250 code) revived the iconic nameplate for a subcompact crossover twin to the Daihatsu Rocky / Toyota Raize. Built on the modular DNGA platform, it is powered by a 1.2-liter WA-VE naturally aspirated 3-cylinder engine producing 87 hp and 113 Nm of torque. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.
Power is sent strictly to the front wheels via a 7-speed Dual Mode CVT. Standard features include the Smart Assist active safety suite, LED headlights, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Production continues in Japan. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
