Subaru Alcyone II (CX) gallery (1991–1996)

Produced from 1991 to 1996, the second-generation Subaru Alcyone SVX (CX code) succeeded the XT coupe as Subaru's flagship performance grand tourer. Styled by Italdesign's Giorgetto Giugiaro, its canopy design featured distinctive side window-in-window glass panels. Motivation was supplied by a 3.3-liter EG33 flat-six engine generating 230–240 hp and 309 Nm of torque. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.

Paired exclusively with a 4-speed automatic and advanced Symmetrical AWD systems (VTD or Active Torque Split), domestic Japanese models offered four-wheel steering (AWS). Manufacturing wrapped up in December 1996. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
