9About this generation
The first generation of the Smart #2 electric city car, debuted at the 2026 Paris Motor Show on the newly developed Electric Compact Architecture.
The first-generation Smart #2 was unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show for the 2027 model year, returning the brand to its micro-mobility roots thirty years after its original concept premiere. Built on the newly developed Electric Compact Architecture (ECA), the model is produced as a two-seat three-door hatchback measuring 2,746 mm in length (2,764 mm in the Couture Edition). The body structure features an upgraded Tridion Cell Evo safety cage, a class-first five-link rear suspension, a signature split tailgate with independently opening rear glass, and an ultra-tight turning circle of 6.95 meters.
Propulsion is handled by a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 80 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a single-speed transmission. Energy is stored in a 35.8-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a WLTP range of up to 290 kilometers (180 miles). In contrast to earlier electric microcars from the brand, the new generation introduces 65 kW DC fast charging that replenishes 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes, vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power capability, and full active driver assistance systems including Stop & Go adaptive cruise control.
