Pontiac Firebird II gallery (1970–1981)

The second generation of the pony car featured sweeping fastback styling and a wide range of V8 engines.

The second-generation Firebird received an all-new fastback coupe body style with sleek lines, while the convertible variant was dropped due to safety regulations. Based on the updated F-body platform, it featured diverse engines ranging from inline-sixes to large-displacement V8s up to 7.5 liters. Due to tightening emissions standards and fuel crises, engine outputs fluctuated and generally decreased over time, but the car maintained its massive popularity thanks to performance variants like the Formula and Trans Am. It was built in the United States and primarily sold in North America, becoming an enduring cultural icon.
