Pontiac Bonneville IX (H-body) gallery (1992–1999)

The ninth-generation Bonneville brought sweeping aero styling, Head-Up Display technology, and supercharged 3800 V6 power.

The ninth-generation Pontiac Bonneville arrived for the 1992 model year, boasting a sleek, wind-tunnel-sculpted exterior on an extensively revised front-wheel-drive H-body platform. Sold exclusively as a four-door sedan, the trim lineup consisted of SE, luxury-sport SSE, and the potent range-topping SSEi. The major technical breakthrough was the introduction of the supercharged 3.8-liter Buick 3800 V6 featuring an Eaton Roots-type supercharger, generating 205 hp initially and rising to 240 hp with the arrival of the 3800 Series II (L67) in 1996. Naturally aspirated variants delivered 170 to 205 hp. Power was directed to the front wheels via electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmissions (Hydra-Matic 4T60-E and heavy-duty 4T65E-HD). The SSEi trim offered pioneering technology including a fighter-jet inspired Head-Up Display (HUD), dual front airbags, variable-effort steering, and electronic traction control. A comprehensive 1996 mid-cycle refresh updated front fascias, bodyside cladding, and rear lighting. Marketed across the US and Canada, it became a performance benchmark in front-wheel-drive luxury.
