Second generation of the Mercedes-Benz Vito commercial van (W639), switching to a rear-wheel-drive architecture and produced from 2003 to 2014.
The second-generation Mercedes-Benz Vito (chassis code W639) launched in late 2003. Markedly different from its predecessor, the W639 transitioned to a rear-wheel-drive layout with longitudinal engines, and introduced optional Vito 4x4 all-wheel drive from 2006. It was offered in two wheelbases and three body lengths.
Powertrain choices were dominated by 2.1-liter inline-four turbodiesels (109 CDI to 115 CDI) and a range-topping 3.0-liter V6 CDI producing up to 224 hp, alongside V6 gasoline engines. A 2010 facelift brought refreshed headlight styling, updated dashboards, and revised suspension tuning.
