Mercedes-Benz E-Class V (W124) gallery (1984–1997)

The Mercedes-Benz W124 series premiered in late 1984, setting new engineering and aerodynamic benchmarks with a drag coefficient of just 0.28. Designed by Bruno Sacco, the W124 range expanded into four body styles: four-door sedan (W124), five-door station wagon (S124), two-door coupe (C124), and a four-seater convertible (A124). During a comprehensive 1993 mid-cycle facelift, Mercedes introduced its current nomenclature strategy, making the late W124 series the first to officially carry the 'E-Class' designation.

Technical highlights included the introduction of 4MATIC automatic all-wheel drive, five-link rear suspension, and multi-valve engines (M111, M104 gasoline and OM605, OM606 diesel). A halo model of the lineup was the 500 E (later E 500), hand-assembled in partnership with Porsche and powered by a 326 hp 5.0-liter M119 V8. AMG also created the rare E 60 AMG. With total sales surpassing 2.56 million units, the W124 remains an enduring icon of modern classic automotive engineering.
