The fourth-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W177) was unveiled in February 2018, introducing refined styling and cutting-edge digital technology to the compact segment. Underpinned by the enhanced MFA2 architecture, the vehicle gained a longer wheelbase, broader track width, and improved ride refinement. For the first time, the model lineup offered both a five-door hatchback (W177) and a sleek four-door notchback sedan (V177), which set a production car aerodynamic record with a drag coefficient of 0.22. Inside, the cabin debuted the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system featuring twin widescreen displays and natural voice control.

Engine choices include 1.3-liter (M282) and 2.0-liter (M260) turbocharged gasoline four-cylinders alongside 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter OM654 diesels. A plug-in hybrid variant, the A 250 e, pairs the 1.3-liter engine with an electric motor for pure-electric city driving. Performance enthusiasts are catered to by AMG A 35 (306 hp) and AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+ (421 hp) models equipped with fully variable torque-vectoring AWD. Transmissions comprise six-speed manuals and seven- or eight-speed dual-clutch automatics. A late 2022 facelift refreshed exterior illumination, added 48-volt mild-hybrid electrification, and simplified trim levels.
