Maserati Sebring I (Tipo AM101/S) photos

The first-generation Maserati Sebring, designated Tipo AM101/S and commonly referred to as the Series I, was unveiled in 1962 at the Geneva Motor Show as an ultra-luxurious 2+2 grand tourer. Built upon a shortened tubular steel chassis derived directly from the venerable 3500 GT, the vehicle featured sharp and distinctive bodywork penned by Giovanni Michelotti for Carrozzeria Vignale. It was powered by Maserati's legendary 3.5-liter (3485 cc) twin-cam inline-six engine, fitted with cutting-edge Lucas mechanical fuel injection and twin-spark ignition, producing 235 horsepower. Power was routed to the rear wheels via a five-speed ZF manual gearbox, while a three-speed Borg-Warner automatic was available as an option. Four-wheel Girling disc brakes were standard equipment. The Sebring Series I was primarily aimed at affluent buyers in Western Europe and North America, combining genuine high-speed grand touring capability with a richly appointed leather interior, power windows, and optional air conditioning.
