The second generation introducing Toyota powerplants, mechanical supercharging, and North American export.
The Lotus Exige Series 2 arrived in 2004, built upon the updated Series 2 aluminum chassis. Configured as a dedicated coupe, it featured aggressive aerodynamic bodywork, a roof scoop, and a high-downforce rear wing. It debuted with the naturally aspirated 1.8-liter Toyota 2ZZ-GE engine delivering 192 hp through a 6-speed manual transmission. In 2005, the limited Lotus Sport Exige 240R introduced forced induction, paving the way for the production supercharged Exige S in 2006 (221 hp). Continuous performance upgrades followed, including the Exige S 240 (240 hp), Exige S 260 (257 hp), and track-specialized Exige Cup models utilizing extensive carbon fiber to keep curb weight under 900 kg. A mid-cycle refresh in 2009 for the 2010 model year brought an enlarged front intake and a reshaped rear wing. The Series 2 Exige was officially sold globally, including North America from 2006 onwards, Europe, Japan, and Australia.
