Lincoln Navigator II (U228) photos

The second-generation Lincoln Navigator (chassis code U228) arrived in 2002 for the 2003 model year, built upon the updated Ford U platform. A major engineering milestone of this generation was the integration of a fully independent rear suspension with computer-controlled air springs, which drastically improved ride comfort, highway handling, and enabled power-folding third-row seats that stowed flat into the floor. The exterior received a substantial redesign featuring squared-off proportions, a prominent waterfall grille, and industry-first power-deployable running boards. Mechanically, early models carried over the 5.4-liter InTech DOHC 32-valve V8 with 300 horsepower linked to a 4-speed automatic. For the 2005 model year, Lincoln replaced this powertrain with a new 5.4-liter 3-valve Triton V8 featuring variable camshaft timing, mated to an advanced ZF 6-speed automatic transmission. Available in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, the U228 generation was marketed primarily in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and GCC countries.
