The fifth-generation Lexus LS executive sedan (chassis code XF50) debuted at the North American International Auto Show in January 2017. Built on the rear-wheel-drive GA-L platform, it featured a radical six-side-window fastback silhouette with a lower center of gravity. The interior showcased traditional Japanese craftsmanship, including Kiriko cut glass, hand-pleated Origami door door fabrics, and Shimamoku wood trim. Technology included a 24-inch color Head-Up Display and Lexus Safety System+ A.

Replacing the historic V8, the LS 500 adopted a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing 416 horsepower, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The LS 500h hybrid utilized Lexus's Multi Stage Hybrid System producing 354 total horsepower. Both models offer RWD or AWD. A 2020 refresh refined suspension damping, added touch functionality to the central display, and introduced Lexus Teammate hands-free driving capability.
