Lexus GS II (S160) gallery (1997–2005)

The second-generation Lexus GS performance sedan (chassis code S160) debuted in late 1997 for the 1998 model year. The design was characterized by quad headlights, a sloping roofline, integrated taillights, and an exceptionally aerodynamic 0.29 drag coefficient. The cabin featured self-illuminating Optitron gauges, automatic climate control, real wood accents, touchscreen navigation, and available Mark Levinson premium audio.

Engine options consisted of a 3.0-liter 2JZ-GE inline-six delivering 225 hp in the GS 300, and a 4.0-liter 1UZ-FE V8 producing 300 hp in the flagship GS 400. In 2001, the V8 was upgraded to a 4.3-liter 3UZ-FE engine in the GS 430. Power was transmitted via a five-speed automatic transmission featuring E-Shift steering-wheel buttons. A 2000 facelift introduced revised grille textures, drop-down taillight designs, and vehicle stability control (VSC) as standard equipment.
