The first-generation Lexus GS 300 (S140) arrived in 1993, featuring Giugiaro styling, rear-wheel drive, and a smooth 2JZ-GE inline-six engine.
The first-generation Lexus GS 300 rear-wheel-drive performance executive sedan (chassis code S140) launched in February 1993 for the 1993 model year. Styled by Italdesign Giugiaro based on their Jaguar Kensington concept, the vehicle presented a sleek fastback profile with a low drag coefficient of 0.31. Interior luxury highlights included hand-fitted leather seating, genuine California walnut wood trim, an Optitron electroluminescent instrument cluster, and an available premium Nakamichi sound system.
Powering the GS 300 was Toyota's naturally aspirated 3.0-liter 2JZ-GE inline-six engine producing 220 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. Power was routed to the rear wheels via a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Featuring a sophisticated double-wishbone independent suspension at both front and rear axles, the S140 balanced sport-oriented driving dynamics with exceptional ride refinement, establishing Lexus in the executive sports sedan arena.
