About this generation

The first generation of the compact Kia Forte, replacing the Cerato globally and spawning the sporty Forte Koup 2-door coupe. The model combines proven engineering reliability, refined.

The first-generation Kia Forte (TD) launched in 2008 as the successor to the Cerato/Spectra in North America, Korea, and Australasia. Designed under Peter Schreyer, it showcased modern compact proportions with the signature Tiger Nose grille. Beyond the 4-door sedan, the range included a 5-door hatchback and a sleek 2-door Forte Koup featuring frameless door glass. Sedan length measured 4,530 mm with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. This generation of the Forte (TD) was produced from 2008 to 2013 and offered in седан, хэтчбек, купе body styles. Built on an engineered platform, it features strong structural rigidity, refined aerodynamics, and advanced occupant safety engineering.

Engine options featured 1.6-liter Gamma (124-126 hp), 2.0-liter Theta II (156 hp), and 2.4-liter Theta II (173 hp for SX trims) petrol units. In Korea, an LPI Hybrid version running on liquefied petroleum gas was available. Gearboxes included 5/6-speed manuals and 4/5/6-speed automatics, establishing Forte as a high-value competitor in North America. The powertrain lineup features modern engines optimized for thermal efficiency, balancing responsive acceleration with economical fuel consumption. Power is delivered through reliable manual or automatic transmissions. Mid-cycle updates introduced modernized LED lighting graphics, premium cabin materials, and enhanced active driver assistance suites.
