Holden Commodore III (VT-VZ) gallery (1997–2007)

Launched in 1997 with the VT series, the third-generation Commodore became the pinnacle of Holden's sales dominance in Australia. Based on the heavily re-engineered GM2800 architecture derived from the Opel Omega B, it featured a notably stiffer body, standard independent rear suspension across the entire range, and sleek aerodynamic styling. The body range encompassed a four-door sedan, a five-door station wagon, and a rugged two-door coupe utility (Holden Ute). Early models were powered by the proven 3.8-litre Ecotec V6 and an optional Supercharged V6, while the traditional 5.0-litre Australian V8 was replaced in 1999 (VT Series II) with the potent all-aluminium 5.7-litre Chevrolet LS1 Gen III V8. Transmissions included 5-speed and 6-speed manuals alongside 4-speed and 5-speed automatics. Facelifts included the VX (2000, safety upgrades and handling tweaks), VY (2002, sharper angular exterior and completely redesigned dashboard), and VZ (2004, introducing the high-tech 3.6-litre Alloytec DOHC V6 and 6.0-litre L76/LS2 V8s). The platform enjoyed global success, exported as the Chevrolet Lumina to the Middle East and South Africa, and Chevrolet Omega to Brazil.
