Holden Statesman II (VQ/VR/VS) photos

After a six-year hiatus, Holden revived the Statesman nameplate in 1990 with the VQ series, built on the extended VN Commodore architecture and pioneering independent rear suspension on Australian-made GM cars. Compared to the older WB platform, the VQ introduced a sleek aerodynamic body, modern crash safety standards, and sophisticated electronic equipment. Engine options comprised the durable 3.8-liter Buick-derived V6 and the revered 5.0-liter Australian Holden V8 delivering up to 185 kW, mated exclusively to four-speed 4L60/4L60-E automatic transmissions. In 1994, the VR series brought revised rounded exterior styling, standard driver airbag, and improved steering geometry. The VS update arrived in 1995, introducing the smoother Ecotec 3.8-liter V6 and a high-performance Supercharged V6 option. Available strictly as a full-size four-door sedan, this generation enjoyed solid sales in Australia, New Zealand, parts of Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, where it was rebadged as the Chevrolet Caprice.
