Holden Caprice II (VQ/VR/VS) gallery (1990–1999)
The second generation of the Holden Caprice luxury sedan, reviving the long-wheelbase flagship on a stretched V-body chassis.
Following a five-year hiatus, the second-generation Holden Caprice was introduced in March 1990 under the VQ series code. Built on a stretched 2826 mm wheelbase platform derived from the VN Commodore, it introduced standard independent rear suspension (IRS), delivering benchmark ride comfort and stability. Styling was distinguished by an elongated rear roofline with a signature fixed glass quarter-window. The VQ series launched with Holden's 5.0-litre multi-point fuel-injected V8 producing 224 hp, with a 3.8-litre Buick-derived V6 introduced in the VQ Series II in 1991. The major VR redesign in 1994 brought smooth exterior contours, standard dual front airbags, and advanced electronic suspension control. The VS series in 1995 introduced the refined Ecotec 3.8-litre V6 and later an optional factory supercharged V6. Beyond Australasia, this generation was exported to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and selected Pacific Rim markets.
