GMC Vandura I photos

The GMC Vandura entered production for the 1971 model year as the commercial cargo variant of the third-generation General Motors G-Series van line. Unlike its forward-control predecessor, it introduced a semi-forward configuration with a distinct front hood and a robust unibody construction featuring an integrated front subframe. Built across light-, medium-, and heavy-duty series (G1500, G2500, G3500), the vehicle was offered in cargo van configurations as well as passenger layouts badged as the GMC Rally. Powerplants spanned inline-six gasoline engines of 4.1 and 4.8 liters, small-block and big-block V8s displacement ranging from 5.0 to 7.4 liters, and 6.2-liter as well as 6.5-liter Detroit Diesel V8 engines. Power was transferred to the rear wheels via three-speed and four-speed manuals or TH350, TH400, and 4L80-E automatic transmissions. Receiving notable facelifts in 1978, 1983, and 1992, the Vandura served North American fleets until it was superseded by the GMC Savana in 1996.
