About this generation

The sixth-generation S550 Mustang introduced independent rear suspension and global market availability.

Unveiled for 2015, the S550 generation marked the first Mustang designed for global sales, featuring factory left-hand and right-hand drive configurations. The engineering highlight was the replacement of the solid rear axle with an integral-link independent rear suspension, dramatically improving handling poise on European roads. Body choices continued as a fastback coupe and a power-folding convertible.

Powertrain options featured an efficient 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder, a base V6, and updated iterations of the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8. Flagship performance variants included the flat-plane crank Shelby GT350 and the 760-hp supercharged Shelby GT500. The S550 consistently held the title of the world's best-selling sports coupe.
